In Atlanta and Beyond, This Is What Kitchen Remodeling Could Look Like in 2018

According to the 2018 Houzz Kitchen Trends Report, two “obsessions” were foremost on urban, rural, and suburban homeowners’ minds when asked what they would do when kitchen remodeling this year:

  • 75% wanted to declutter counters
  • 66% were concerned with putting things away

Almost two-thirds of respondents (63%) said that it was most important that kitchen remodeling make it easy for them to store and find things; 60% maintained that the room should remain “stylish and beautiful” while doing so.

That probably explains why respondents also said they are willing to “splurge” on countertops and cabinets – and why designers have already suggested trendy ideas, to answer these needs.

Will Atlanta Kitchen Remodeling Focus on Compartments and Counters?

The appliance garage

One of the most touted solutions to homeowners’ concerns in 2018 is the so-called “appliance garage.” This refers to any set of customized compartments that stores and hides various kitchen electronics. It’s popular among smart storage options, since it helps homeowners declutter and keep things in order without any fuss.

An appliance garage can also be designed to serve kitchens in other ways. For example, it can help create a more efficient and ergonomic kitchen, if one compartment is turned into a breakfast station. The garage would not only house the oven toaster and coffee maker, but the juice blender and sandwich maker as well.

Open shelving

Open shelving is another storage solution which, though not new, is still timely, poised to trend, and always budget-friendly. Since it allows homeowners to put things out of the way and get them back easily, open shelving is another component of a clean and efficient kitchen. For some, it might be even handier than an appliance garage.

More than this, however, open shelves can also make a more visually striking kitchen. They allow you to display your finest dishes and tableware – thereby also helping you remember to use them more often!

Recessed lighting

It’s not just counters and tabletops that homeowners can declutter. Ceilings and spaces above standard cabinetry are fair game this year, especially if they can be converted into more storage. One trendy way to free up ceiling space is to opt for recessed lighting. Doing away with hanging light fixtures – especially above islands – opens up room for overhead cabinetry.

Are you embarking on your own kitchen remodeling project? These trends and solutions are based on a nationwide survey and may reflect some of your wants and goals. You never know what kernel of inspiration you’ll find from this bucket of ideas.

Consult your reliable Atlanta kitchen remodeling contractor to determine which could work best for you.
