A Homeowner’s Guide: 4 Important Dos and Don’ts of Bathroom Remodeling

A bathroom remodeling project can be a worthy endeavor whether you simply want to give your bathroom a facelift for your own personal use or you are trying to improve the resale value of your home in Atlanta, GA before having it listed on the MLS.

If it’s the first time for you to have your bathroom remodeled, planning the entire process can be a little intimidating. Fortunately, there are many steps you can take to make sure everything goes well. Aside from hiring a trusted bathroom remodeling contractor, like Sterling Works, keep the following dos and don’ts in mind:

Bathroom Remodeling Contractor Carefully Installs New Bathroom Fixture

DO: Emphasize neutral colors for the walls and fixtures

One of the last things you want to happen is to be left with a bathroom that feels cold and cramped. This is why it’s best to use neutral or light colors for the walls of your bathroom. Since they reflect light better, they create the illusion that the bathroom is larger than it actually is. When choosing a new toilet or bathtub, try going with neutral colors as well. These color choices never go out of style, saving you thousands of dollars in replacements later on.

DON’T: Purchase materials online unless you can see them in person first

Many websites offer bathroom remodeling materials at a big discount. However, you should resist the urge to take advantage of those bargains, mindful of the possibility that the materials may not fit your bathroom as seamlessly as you imagine. The only time you should purchase something online is if you can inspect the materials in person before finalizing the purchase.

DON’T: Forget to take proper lighting into consideration

When it comes to lighting in the bathroom, some homeowners make the mistake of having only two or three ceiling lights, which may leave a bathroom a little too dark at night. You may want to add a few more lights to the bathroom mirror or near the vanity for better lighting. Additionally, consider having a small window with frosted glass installed. This will keep your bathroom bright and cheerful during the day without sacrificing privacy.

DO: Keep plumbing fixtures where they are currently located

Bathroom remodeling can be much more affordable than you think. One of the best ways to help you save a good sum of money on your remodel is to keep your plumbing fixtures where they are. Reworking your plumbing system takes a lot of time and effort, which can cause your final bill to skyrocket. Consider having a modern toilet and a brand new bathtub installed to replace your current fixtures. You’d be surprised how such a simple change can drastically alter the feel of the bathroom and save you a lot of money.
