What are Your Options When Choosing a Patio Cover Material?

If you are lucky enough to have an outdoor space, then we hope that you are taking great care of it. Having an outdoor space is like having an additional room where you can spend valuable moments with your friends and family. These days, having a garden or a terrace is almost considered to be a luxury, so if you have one use it wisely. While having an outdoors space requires some maintenance, it pays off. If you take the time to equip your space with the tools needed for activities, such as barbecuing, dining, playing games or simply relaxing, you will be able to enjoy a special entertainment oasis in your home.

The possibilities are endless, and that is why you should think about the functionality of your garden. After you invest into buying the things you need for certain activities, you should think about the practical aspects of your outdoor space like a patio cover.

If you think that choosing the right patio cover is a hassle, I beg to differ. It can actually be an enjoyable process. The market has evolved, and there is a lot that is available to you. Patio covers vary in price depending on shape, style, size and of course materials. There are more stable and permanent options as well as those covers that you can be opened and closed. Of course, the material is key. If you pick the wrong material, the overall look of your outdoor space will change and may even be ruined. Keep reading to learn about the three most popular materials and how to choose the one that&s right for you.

Metal Patio Covers

Metal patio covers are getting more and more popular thanks to the advertising skills of certain manufacturers. Metal is a highly durable material, and it can withstand almost all weather conditions. Thanks to their high durability, metal patio covers last a long time. This means that the initial expense will be justified in the long wrong because of the low maintenance costs. Just like metal roofing, patio covers can also be made from different types of metal. Probably the most common and most popular one is aluminum. The best feature of aluminum patio covers is that they are easy to install because they are lightweight. If you are concerned about the cold or gray look that metal may give to your home, don’t worry. Aluminum patio covers come in many styles and colors. One of the advantages of aluminum patio covers is that they are a relatively cheap option. An advantage of metal covers in general is that bugs are not attracted to them. If you have struggled with insects in the past, a metal cover should solve that once for all.

Wood Patio Covers

Wood Patio Cover
Generally speaking, wood is a beautiful building material. It looks especially good as a roofing system or if it is used for details on the house. It gives the property a warm and cozy look and feel. That is the main reason many homeowners choose wooden patio covers. They either like the looks of it or they think that wood patio covers will fit in well with the rest of their house. Wood covers are not the same as they used to be. Years ago, you could only choose from a few types of wood and the color range was almost nonexistent. The situation has changed today. Wood patio covers come in various shapes and materials as well as patterns and colors meaning that you can choose one that fits the overall look of your property. Prices vary depending on the type of wood. Some wood materials are environmentally acceptable, so the price is higher. However, this type of patio covers is prone to having problems with insects and there is the possibility that it will deteriorate over time.

Vinyl Patio Covers

Vinyl is a relatively new material for use as a patio cover. The main advantage of anything made of vinyl is that it is resistant to weather conditions and is very low maintenance. You will need to check on your vinyl patio cover only once or twice a year. If you donโ€™t mind putting in the time, you can wash it but thatโ€™s all that you will need to do. Homeowners often choose a vinyl patio cover because they are not expensive and installation is quick and easy. Some vinyl patio covers can look similar to wood or the famous alumawood, but in reality, are plastic. This is a long-lasting option and it could be the best one for you.
So, there you have it. We truly hope that you will find the best option for yourself and of course if you need any help, feel free to contact our crew.

Thanks for the information on patio covers! My wife and I just put a new patio in our yard, and we want to find the cover that is going to work the best for us. I like that you mentioned that a metal patio cover will last a really long time, making the initial investment worth it. We want something durable, so we will look into this.

My sister and I have been talking about my back yard for the past few hours, and I was think that I should probably have a deck cover installed. I’ll probably have to talk to my husband about it first, but I’m sure that he’d love the idea. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to find a company soon, that way we could get it installed as soon as possible.

I like what you said about how material is really important when choosing a patio cover. It sounds reasonable that you would want to find one that is the right material for you and functions like you want. My mom is looking for a patio cover for the summer so she’ll have to find one that is removable for when the winter comes.

My wife and I have been thinking about changing up our backyard, but we weren’t sure how to find the right cover for our patio. I really like that metal patio covers can actually last a long time, and have high durability. It would be nice to know that you will be able to get the most out of it, and that it will last a long time.

What I liked the most was how you mentioned that the use of metal patio covers was beneficial because of their durability and ability to withstand all weather conditions. All my mom ever said was that she wants a solid patio cover installed by the time she returns home from her business trip. Obviously, metal is solid, so if I had that kind of cover installed, I’m pretty sure she won’t have any complaints. I’ll still ask for the opinion of a professional contractor though. Thanks.

Philip was at my house daily for the bulk of the project, ensuring that all of the subs were coordinated and completing the project exactly as promised. My husband and I cannot praise Sterling Works highly enough! Philip has assembled and overseen a team of pros who do gorgeous, precise work, turning our cramped, hideous 1970s bathroom and small walk-in closet into the Japandi retreat of our dreams--a room we can age into with confidence. Would we use Sterling Works again? Absolutely! If you're lucky enough to find them free, grab them fast! A+++++++++

Philip was hands down the best contractor from start to finish of a project we could have asked for. His attention to detail and understanding my vision for our kitchen was so easy to communicate. The crew he hires from demo and structural engineering work, to cabinet making to local recommendations for suppliers of appliances, countertops, etc are all top notch. The best part was his timeline and budget were accurate and we had no surprises there. I hope he never retires for my own sake. Most of all, he is an in town local and kept our house and dogs safe while we underwent this huge renovation! Peace of mind while turning a project over was such a relief.

Sterling Works did an absolutely incredible job giving us the kitchen of our dreams. They werenโ€™t the first business we met with when planning our kitchen renovation, but we knew after meeting with the owner, Phil, that we had found the right company for the job. Phil understood our vision for our kitchen and was really invested in giving us exactly what we wanted. He was the first contractor that we met with that actually had suggestions and gave some of his own ideas that helped us to make some key decisions. As far as timing goes, I know itโ€™s impossible to promise an exact date for a project, but despite the hiccups that come with renovations in a 70+ year old house, they moved swiftly (not too swiftly as to make mistakes) and finished right on time as promised. 10/10 would absolutely work with Sterling Works again and would recommend them to anyone.

I am so happy with our our 2nd floor renovation project turned out from Sterling Works. Everyone was wonderful to work with, from the flooring crew who had to pivot when the original plan wasn't going to work, to the carpenter who built our custom vanity and the rest of the crew who did excellent work. They all took our wishes into account, offered suggestions based on their professional expertise, and made sure we were happy with the end results. Our house finally feels more like a home than an apartment and we are thrilled with the results.

We recently completed a project with Sterling Works and could not be happier with the experience and outcome. We updated both our kitchen and primary bathroom and they both turned out great. The entire process working with Philip and his team was easy from initial planning to completion. Philipโ€™s team is wonderful. They are all very talented and do meticulous work. Also, they are also extremely friendly and polite. In addition to the great work, they also do the โ€œlittle thingsโ€ like cleaning up the work site at the end of every day, which really does make a huge difference with all of the work taking place in the house. Overall, the project was completed on time and there were no surprises on cost. We would highly recommend Sterling Works and are already considering updating a guest bathroom with them later this year.

Had my kitchen completely redone with a lot of special requests and Sterling Works managed it all beautifully. They were extremely professional and all the work was done on time. Philip was so easy to work with and highly responsive, as were all of his crew. The subcontractors he chose were also highly professional and easy to work with. My kitchen turned out stunning, so if you want quality work done on time, these are the guys.

I just finished a kitchen and second room remodel, working with Phil and his crew. I cannot say enough about the process and the results. Phil really helped guide me through the whole remodel process and communicated with me next steps, schedule and the all-important budget. As we came upon a couple of issues and choices, he and his crew were able to offer solutions and options and implement them to perfection. For example, my house is very old so I was terrified of what we would find once we opened the walls. And we did find something โ€“ some of the pipes were split and leaking beneath the house, as well as into the basement. Phil and his crew were able to deal with this new situation almost immediately. Going into this, I also worried about having a whole crew in the house for such a long period of time. His crew is really the best group of guys. But by the time the project was finished I could not imagine, not having them around! They are really good people!!! I cannot overstate that! This whole scary process was so easy and enjoyable due to their knowledge, experience and ingenuity. My remodel is absolute perfection. I definitely recommend Phil and hope to have future projects with them. Sincerely, Erin
